Head north from Hanamaki Airport (Iwate Pref.) to reach the city of Morioka. If Mt. Iwate is your destination, you can get there easily by driving in the direction of Akita on National Route 46.

Along the way you’ll find Shizukuishi, a town that’s home to Koiwai Farm, Japan’s pioneer, recreational farm ground designed for travelers.  After letting loose in the farm lands that stretch across Iwate’s mountainscape, make your way to Akita Prefecture to see Japan’s deepest lake, Lake Tazawako.

Then return to the city of Hirosaki, while visiting the Hirosaki Castle, the retro Western-European and the best-of-five storied pagoda, you can also enjoy a French restaurant with plenty of aomori ingredients.
